stay dry but there's a lot of rain on the way for wednesday. but as you're trying to make your plans, you want to keep that in the back of your mind. 55 in san francisco, 51 in sonoma and we're at 54 in stinson beach. new week, new forecast. lots to talk about. first let's check your drive. good monday morning, mike. >> good monday morning. great monday morning as far as the flow of traffic. here's 101 in san jose. no accidents or incidents around the bay right now. things change of course dramatically over just a few minutes so we'll track, but the map shows you a smooth flow in your northbound direction throughout. there's some construction but it is not on the freeways. we're watching the alameda as you're coming up through downtown. we have a smooth drive as well through livermore, eastbound construction and a little slowing. that's all, typical overnight. watching this area right by those paragon outlets. we have the shopping season starting up so i'll watch for any slowing. right now that yellow dip is just a little blip in the speeds, not a concern but i'll track it. we should be learning more

about that string of crimes in the south bay killing one man and ending in a shootout with two police officers. police arresting this man, 26-year-old jonathan wilbanks of san jose. they say he and a second suspect went on a crime spree allegedly robbing four businesses within two hours. after those robberies, police say the two shot a man at a 7-eleven store and tried to carjack him. that man died at the scene. san jose police were able to arrest wilbanks during a shootout with officers. the second suspect did get away. >> anybody who's willing to take part in four armed robberies and shooting at a police officer, basically trying to kill one of our cops, is as dangerous as it gets. >> wilbanks was hit during that shootout. one of the police officers suffered a minor injury. police now holding a press conference set for this morning at city hall along with mayor chuck reed and other city officials to update this investigation. as the family waits for

closure in the kidnapping of 9-year-old michaela garecht, friends and family will gather at 10:00 this morning where she disappeared back in 1988. the family is waiting for lab testing to reveal if a bone fragment found last month in a san joaquin county well belongs to garecht. hayward police say there was a delay in testing those fragments that could belong to the little girl. the vallejo teen accused of just a violent assault on a 65-year-old woman is due in court today. 14-year-old caviar king is accused of attempted murder, assault, robbery and kidnapping. he is expected to be tried as an adult. police say king kidnapped a woman at gunpoint thursday, forced her into his car and drove to another location. they say he then sexually salted her, bound her with duct tape and dumped her on the side of

the road. that woman was seriously hurt but she is expected to recover. police are look for two men involved in a deadly shooting in menlo park. 42-year-old kerry cudlip and a woman were sitting in his car saturday night when at least two people approached them. at some point shots were fired and police found cudlip's body lying in the street. the woman has not been identified but is alive. witnesses saw two men in a dark-colored hooded sweatshirts running from that area. police have not said if the man was targeted or if this was a random attack. a hearing being held today trying to determine the mental competency of the gunman accused in that deadly shooting spree at oikos university. lawyers for goh are asking for the criminal case to be put on hold last month while he undergoes psychiatric tests to

determine whether he is fit to stand trial. now to a developing story. we're following at least 80 air strikes by israel overnight as violence along the gaza strip continues. we've got a live look at gaza where at least 16 people were killed in the latest attacks. overnight israel targeted weapon storage facilities, police stations and training camps. in response, at least 11 rockets landed in israel this morning, but so far no reports or injury -- of injuries or damage. at least 84 palestinians have been killed, 700 injured since that conflict began. three israelis have been killed as well. meantime, laura, president obama supporting israel while both democrats and republicans are backing him. nbc's tracie potts has new details on that crisis in the middle east. >> reporter: this is what's left this morning of a two-story house in gaza reportedly destroyed by an israeli missile. 11 people died, the deadliest

attack since these raids started last week. israel says its strikes are aimed at stopping attacks from hamas and that its military is ready to do more. hamas tells israel they'll, quote, shred you to pieces. the world now concerned about an all-out ground war. >> we are fully supportive of israel's right to defend itself from missiles landing on people's homes. >> reporter: in thailand, president obama said long-term peace could be threatened if gaza's rockets keep coming. >> we're serious about wanting to resolve this situation and create a genuine peace process. it starts with no more missiles being fired into israel's territory. >> reporter: back home, this reaction in new york's times square. >> free free palestine. >> reporter: and rare unity on

capitol hill. >> president obama and others are doing their very best to see if they can't turn hamas' attacks off. >> all of us republicans and democrats stand with the president in supporting israel. >> reporter: israelis and palestinians fearing for their lives, the world fearing a massive conflict may be looming. while traveling in southeast asia, president obama has been on the phone with the prime ministers of israel and turkey, with the president of egypt, trying to work out a solution. tracie potts, nbc news, washington. 4:37. new this morning, president obama is on his first post-election trip abroad visiting southeast asia. the president and hillary clinton stopped in myanmar, also known as berma, early this morning. they met with an activist at her home where she spent several years under house arrest. during the visit, they discussed myanmar's efforts to establish a democratic government. >> the friendship between our

two countries is of long standing. the united states has been in support of the democracy movement in berma and we are confident this support continues through the difficult years that lie ahead. >> after visiting myanmar, president obama flew to cambodia. the trip makes him the first sitting u.s. president to visit the two countries. >> it will be very interesting watching that one unfold. >> that's right. >> 4:38. christina loren is back with us to tell us what it looks like outside. >> we look pretty good, good morning to you. temperatures cool enough for a jacket but something that you can peel off later on today as we approach the mid-60s all across the bay area. we're starting out with a little bit of fog. we didn't have much of that over the weekend. we were dealing with the showers and there was rain on the way but we get a little dry weather today. 55 degrees to start you out in san francisco. we're at a chilly 46 degrees in gilroy, 53 for livermore to start and 52 in sunnyvale. headed towards a really nice

there's just a tad bit of slowing up the incline. this is through the area into the city. if you're heading out of the area as many folks do this week, there's still no problems but sacramento. it's a little drier than it was on friday and over the weekend, but as you head over the summit, west 80 out of blue canyon, you do have some snow and ice reported. the snow the white on the mountain tops and pink, icy conditions. so just remember use caution if you're heading there in the early morning hours. lucky you. looking out over our own high rise, this is coming op the san mateo bridge. headlights over to the peninsula with no slowing and a nice clear view over that bridge and the flat section. young adults from an oakland-based nonprofit youth program in washington this morning to receive a prestigious award personally from first lady michelle obama. youth radio being honored with the 2012 national arts and humanities youth program award. the program works with more than 400 students all across the

welcome back, everyone. a good monday morning to you. taking a live look outside. downtown san jose. looks like it's -- that's christmas in the park set up pretty soon too. so many festivities. >> it makes it beautiful this time of year. >> it's 4:44. this week san francisco city leaders will decide whether to pass a ban on public nudity. supervisors who proposed the ban said business owners are fed up with a group of nudists. they usually hang out over at

market at castro streets on a daily basis. the proposal would extend the ban on nudity in parks to all public areas of the city. >> i've got a lot of people who maybe a few years ago didn't care that much have gotten really fed up with it. it's gay people, straight people, people with kids, people without kids. it's pretty broad-based. >> under the ban, nudity would still be allowed at such events as san francisco's gay pride celebration, beta breakers and folsom street fair. how about this, facebook and yahoo! looking to team up. this happening as the markets continue to fluctuate with the discussions over the looming fiscal cliff continuing out in washington. so for a look at today's business news, let's turn things over to seema mody. she is live at cnbc world headquarte headquarters. good morning, seema. >> reporter: very good morning to you guys. markets coming off another down week. the dow and nasdaq and s&p 500 all lost more than 1.5% and are

down nearly 5% since election day. but stocks did close higher on friday. positive comments from the white house and top lawmakers about the possibility of striking a budget deal to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff helped markets end higher. it is a holiday-shortened week but there's still plenty of data to digest. we get a report on existing home sales today and numbers tuesday and wednesday on housing starts, consumer sentiment and unemployment, plus fed chairman ben bernanke speaks. the dow rising 45 points on friday and the nasdaq up 16 to close at 2853. here's to that big story you were just mentioning. facebook and yahoo! are reportedly in talks about a possible internet search partnership. any deal could push microsoft, which powers yahoo! search technology, out of the picture. reports that i yahoo!'s ceo, marissa mayer and facebook's ceo met recently to discuss closer ties through the companies. they both previously worked for google.

that's something interesting to watch in the technology world. >> weste'll keep our eyes on it the roads to tahoe are clear but there's plenty of snow up there. this weekend's storm dumped plenty of fresh powder on the sierra. keeping the roads to tahoe open every winter is a fairly tough job. national geographic documentary. hell on the highway focuses on the winter of 2010 to 2011 when more than 700 inches of snow fell. it looks at what they did to deep the interstate open and donner pass open. hell on the highway airs wednesday night at ten:00. it was crazy that year. no chains required, though. so clear path up there if you're headed that way. >> that's a good title. that will make me watch alone. >> you don't want to be in it,

arrive until tuesday into wednesday. tomorrow morning a slick commute north of the golden gate bridge. we stop the clock at noon. that's when it starts to get busy around here. area of low pressure will start to dive south as we head throughout the day on wednesday. look at this, we stop the clock 8:00 a.m. wednesday. things will clear out significantly. that's a big travel day for people. we're looking pretty good as long as they get their traveling done towards the second half of wednesday. 67 in livermore, 65 in san jose and 66 degrees, good morning to you, redwood city. temperatures today are going to be pretty mild. in fact we're going to stay nice and mild temperaturewise all week long. look at thanksgiving. that little turkey is so happy under the sunshine. 63 degrees inland on turkey day. 61 degrees as you enjoy your turkey dinner at the coast. we do have some more changes on the way, potentially more showers on sunday. we'll talk about that coming up. it is 4:50 right now. the bishop of the san jose diocese apologizing to

parishioners after a convicted child molester was allowed to volunteer at a school festival. this all happened last month and now bishop patrick mcgraw says it was a mistake to allow him to work on that sound system. a parent notified a sheriff's deputy that he was a sex offender but was told he had a signed note from the diocese giving him permission to be there. it is still not clear at this point who wrote the letter. we will learn more today about the chevron refinery fire and what the company is doing to prevent another disaster from releasing harmful chemicals into the air. the bay area air quality management district will hold a special meeting to get an update on the fire investigation. in the meantime the san francisco chronicle reports an independent test of surrounding neighborhoods found cancer-causing chemicals still present in and around homes. chevron insists there is not

significant risk from the fire citing the conclusion of experts that analyze the fire right after it happened. an alabama judge dropping handgun charges against rolando mcclain. he was to serve 180 days in jail. his accuser no longer wants to press any charges, but the nfl could still take action in this case. 4:51. speaking of the raiders, team owner mark davis apologizing to fans this morning. we'll tell you why coming up. plus new support today for the planned warriors arena along that san francisco embarcadero. we'll tell you more. and a live look outhere over by oakland. we'll show you what's going on that might affect you if you're trying to get onto the nimitz freeway.

defenses going head to head, taking center stage on monday night football. the winner moving closer to a possible first round bye in the playoffs. meantime raiders owner, mark davis, actually apologizing to fans after the team's 38-17 loss to the saints. davis telling the media he's embarrassed for fans and he promised the team would get things right for them. easier said than done. the raiders now 3-7. they have been outscored 135-69 over the last, ouch, three weeks. >> we know the proposed warriors arena in san francisco is expected to get another round of support today. the restaurant and hotel workers union and the building and trade you know 8 unions are expected to urge the board of supervisors to give the stadium a green light. the board gave the project a thumbs up last week. if the stadium wins final approval, it is expected to create more than 4,000 jobs. half of them would actually be permanent. >> a hot-looking project out there. that would be very cool.

mike inouye is here to tell us about what's happening on your possible trip to work or wherever you're going. >> you're up a little early to just be hanging out. we're looking over at the bay bridge, getting smoothly across from the east bay to the city. we'll show you oakland past the coliseum, there's construction going on affecting the high street on-ramps to both north and southbound 880. so use park, they're all very clear right now. we'll show you on the maps, this is the area just north of the coliseum right here. no major slowing. 580 moves smoothly as well. those yellow blips just down to 60. jon told you about monday night football. that's tonight at 5:30. but the gates open at 2:30. we expect to see slowing right around candlestick any time starting in the afternoon and that really gets tied up getting into and especially out of the city affecting folks in the early afternoon but it should be clear by the time the game starts at 5:30 tonight. we're looking at a smooth drive along the peninsula. but last week we had trouble but
